Hiding in Plain Sight: Lindsey Mazza’s Journey from Law to True Advocacy

In this week’s Make It Count episode, Michelle Latocha sat down with someone whose story is a masterclass in courage, clarity, and the power of self-advocacy. Lindsey Mazza, once a successful family lawyer, is now a passionate advocate for disability inclusion, a Reiki Master, and the force behind Hiding in Plain Sight—a movement, podcast, and soon-to-be platform helping people rediscover their voice.

What makes her journey remarkable isn’t just the pivot from courtrooms to conferences—but the deeply human reason behind it
“I’ve been an advocate my whole life,” Lindsey shares. “I had to be.”
From childhood, Lindsey faced barriers most people never consider—whether it was something as simple as being allowed to bring a buddy to the bathroom or as complex as navigating inaccessible courthouses as a practicing lawyer. Despite these systemic challenges, she pushed forward, never speaking openly about her disability, even among close friends.
That changed in 2023 when she lost her father—also a lawyer and judge, and her lifelong teammate in navigating life with a disability.
“Losing him broke something open in me,” she says. “It forced me to confront everything I’d been hiding.”
Her grief triggered a powerful awakening. The mask of strength she wore daily cracked, and through that space came clarity. What followed wasn’t just a career change—it was a life reset. Lindsey realized she could no longer operate in environments that rejected her authenticity. And so, she stepped out of the legal world, surrendered to her intuition, and gave herself permission to be seen.

From Rock Bottom to Realignment
What’s striking about Lindsey’s story is how often the term “resilient” comes up—and how she challenges it.
“We call people resilient like it’s a compliment,” she says, “but what choice do we really have?”
That statement hits especially hard coming from someone who admits she once lay in bed thinking she’d rather die than keep practicing law. But instead of staying in that place, she called on her father, her guides, and the universe—and what came next was a spiritual and emotional shift that sparked Hiding in Plain Sight.
“The only way forward was to stop rejecting myself,” she reflects. “To use my lived experience to serve others.”
Shedding Old Stories, Embracing New Rooms
Her story also touched on the grief that comes with growth—the loss of people, roles, and comfort zones.
“When you start vibrating higher, not everyone can come with you,” Lindsey said. “Some people disappear quietly, and that’s okay.”
In stepping into her truth, Lindsey discovered that real alignment brings the right opportunities and people—effortlessly. Since making that leap, she’s been interviewed on The Social, booked speaking engagements, launched a podcast, and is coaching others to step into their own stories.
She’s also creating a space for youth and future advocates to find their voice early—before the world convinces them to shrink.
“Everything we heal in adulthood traces back to childhood,” she explained. “We need safe spaces where kids can show up as their whole selves.”

Inclusion Isn’t Just a Buzzword
Now consulting on accessibility and inclusion, Lindsey points out that most corporate DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) strategies still fall short. Why?
Because they’re missing lived experience at the table.
“It’s like having an all-white panel talk about racial injustice,” she said boldly. “We need disabled voices making the decisions—because eventually, we all end up needing accessibility.”
Lindsey is more than an advocate—she’s a change catalyst. Her work now helps organizations, schools, and individuals reflect, rethink, and rebuild from a place of truth and lived understanding.
What’s Next?
Lindsey’s not slowing down. From speaking engagements to her upcoming collaboration book, to coaching future authors and hosting a transformational conference—she’s amplifying voices one story at a time.
And if you’re wondering how she stays grounded?
It’s the little reminders. 11:11 clocks. Her kids. Her intuition. And the belief that…
“Maybe it won’t work out—but maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.”
