Turning Grit Into Creativity: How Geet Built His Collective

Make It Count

Geet Chahil’s life started on a sprawling 45-acre orchard in Beamsville, Ontario. It was the kind of childhood built on grit, mechanics, and problem-solving. His father, a mechanic in India before immigrating, passed down the trade to Geet by way of flashlights, tools, and grease-stained weekends.

“I grew up holding the flashlight for my dad. He’d say, ‘You should be a mechanic—steady work, good money.’ For a while, that was the plan.”

Geet followed through, training as a truck and coach technician, working on heavy machinery, and embracing the discipline of mechanical trades. But as he spent more time under the hood, he noticed something—many of his older co-workers were physically worn down. It planted a question in his mind: Did he want the rest of his life to look the same way?

What set Geet apart was his instinct for creativity. While classmates were writing essays or creating posters, Geet was scripting, shooting, and editing videos. His classmates submitted assignments; he submitted short films.

“I was always the only one picking video projects. And seeing people’s reactions—that emotional connection—that’s what hooked me.”

Video gave Geet something the garage couldn’t: freedom to create, freedom to connect, and freedom to spark emotion.

Taking the Leap: From eChild to Geet Collective

At first, videography felt too risky to be a career. But curiosity pushed him forward. He began freelancing under eChild Productions, offering free or low-cost videos to local events and small businesses. It was a hustle built on passion and persistence.

Three years later, he transitioned into Geet Collective, bringing together a small team and sharpening the company’s focus on videography as a driver of business growth and community storytelling. The new name reflected his belief: video isn’t about him—it’s about the collective of voices, businesses, and people he amplifies through his work.

Local Lens: A Collaborative Experiment That Worked

Geet’s innovative spirit birthed Local Lens, a collaborative series that gave small businesses a platform to showcase their story while splitting production costs.

The results:

  • Six episodes produced (and counting)

  • Over 1 million views across digital platforms

  • Stronger visibility for Niagara entrepreneurs who otherwise couldn’t afford high-end production

“Local Lens isn’t just about making videos. It’s about community collaboration—building each other up, creating visibility, and showing the world what Niagara businesses can do.”

What Sets Geet Collective Apart

In a world where everyone has a camera, what sets Geet Collective apart is intention. Geet doesn’t just film; he listens. He doesn’t just edit; he builds narratives.

His philosophy:

  • Video is a handshake—the first point of connection between a business and its audience.

  • Authenticity matters—he avoids cookie-cutter approaches and designs each video to reflect the unique heart of the business.

  • Collaboration wins—by working closely with clients, Geet creates stories that resonate rather than advertisements that fade.

Video as a Force for Good

Beyond businesses, Geet has used video to amplify nonprofits, local causes, and organizations that need visibility. Whether it’s raising awareness for a fundraiser or spotlighting overlooked communities, Geet sees video as a tool for advocacy and empowerment.

“At its core, video is information. But when you layer in storytelling, it becomes connection. That’s when change happens.”

The Fun Side of Geet

Behind the camera, Geet is also known for his wit and humor. He often breaks the ice with clients through games and creative exercises. A few favorites you could play in an interview with him:

  • “Two Truths and a Reel” – He shares two true stories and one fake from his videography journey, and the audience has to guess the lie.

  • “Quick Shot Questions” – A lightning round: favorite director, dream location to film, go-to editing snack, guilty pleasure show.

  • “Frame It or Scrap It” – Give him random objects or ideas (like “a rubber chicken” or “a rainy night in Niagara”) and ask if he’d film it—or scrap it.

These games reveal the creativity and humor that fuel his work.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Storytelling

Geet’s vision is bold. He sees video evolving beyond social media trends into immersive storytelling experiences that businesses and organizations will rely on. His goal: to keep Niagara at the forefront of video innovation while expanding his collective to bigger markets.

“Short-form builds awareness. Long-form builds trust. When you combine both, you create movements.”
